First, there is the water: an inch a day from an average residential pool is several hundred gallons every day, and your water bill rises with it. Next are chemicals, because every refill dilutes the water you have balanced. Then there is the ground: water escaping under a deck or behind a wall washes out the base, which is how decks settle, tiles crack and liners wrinkle. A small leak left for a season often turns into a larger repair.
Finding a leak early keeps the repair small.
